Less than two months left

Well, the seven week mark has hit until I get to see some of your beautiful faces again. Somedays, it feels like time has really flown, others I just can't wait for June to come. July and August weather seems to have peaked in the Caribbean for April. It makes me tremble just thinking of the summer heat, but fortunately I won't be a part of it.

This week has gone well, everyone was excited to be back for the first two days, then the kids just started going crazy with excitement for our expedition trips next week. 6th and 7th grade are going to the beach in Samana to study the coral reef with snorkling equipment, in addition to activities like building boats, hunting treasure, rock climbing, writing, art, and social studies. I'm going with them, and it should be pretty sweet. 8th grade will go to Monabao on a 5 day hiking trip focusing more on leadership and teambuilding, but also on school work as well.

You can pray that the kids won't drive us to nuts also for safety. Trips like this are usually an amazing time for relationships too. Know that I miss you all.

Happy Easter!!!

Hola my friends! Happy Easter everyone. Things are going well here. Two days ago I was fully rested after a week of vacationing. My parents were here and got to see the school and the sites, and led some of my classes in field games. It was awesome. We also spent three days at the beach, not trying to rub anything in to those who still see occasional snow. However, two days ago I ran in a 12km race, and disposed of all relaxation that my body had accumulated. It was definitely brutal, midday, sweltering sun, large hills, and dominicans spraying you with water at every corner. Sorry this time I did not bring home the hardware. It is a popular race because there are cash prizes, so it brings in super athletic types from across the country. Needless to say my victory was in experience, free t-shirt, and arriving at the finish line.

It was a challenge this morning to realign my body to early mornings, but I made it to school, and I'm glad to be here. The students all had a great break and are super excited, because next week I will go with 6th and 7th to a beach where we will get to study the coral reef. It should be a fun week full of excitement. Oh, also 7th grade service class is putting on an Easter Egg Hunt for Kindergarten. It should be a lot of fun! Miss you all, Here's a pic of the family at one of the beautiful sites of Jarabacoa. Oh and by the way, last fall I rapelled down this waterfall. The dark streak down the rocks to the left of the waterfall. It was a crazy, wild and dangerous experience.

Just wanted to flash a quick pic of me and my trophey from the race two weeks ago. Here are the winners from my school in the other age groups! And yes I did sweat a lot (dominican republic), but I'm really wet because I poured a cup of water over my head.

Science news:
This week in 7th grade we used batteries to demonstrate "fuses", which meant connecting a piece of steel wool to a battery and watching it burn! It was awesome!
In 8th grade we successfully sucked an egg into a pop bottle using matches and the magical force called air pressure.
6th grade is doing tons of experiments about the ocean, in preparation for their trip to the beach after Semana Santa aka Spring Break.

Personal news:
The parents of yours truly arrive today, pray for safety and good times!
Also, my nose is a little sore from catching a rock in my face while rolling in a kayak the other day.

Weather news:
Mostly rain, cool cloud cover, with the occasional breach of hot sunlight.
